d. Menyatakan kalimat syarat yang tidak terpenuhi.

Beberapa contoh penggunaannya dalam kalimat:
• If I had applied, I would have got the job.
Kalau sekiranya saya telah melamar, saya akan sudah
mendapatkan pekerjaan itu.
• If he had worked hard, he would have passed.
Kalau sekiranya ia bekerja keras, ia akan sudah lulus.

e. Menyatakan past perfect tense dalam kalimat tunggal (simple
sentence) bilamana salah satu kata, seperti already, before, till, dan
since digunakan.

Beberapa contoh penggunaannya dalam kalimat:
• He had already heard this information.
Ia sudah mendengar informasi ini.
• I had not read this book before.
Saya belum pernah membaca buku ini sebelumnya.
• They had not left for Lombok till yesterday.
Mereka belum pergi ke Lombok hingga kemarin.
• I had not met her since her marriage.
Saya belum bertemu dengannya sejak perkawinannya.

Beberapa hal yang perlu diperhatikan sehubungan dengan penggunaan
bentuk waktu ini, yaitu:
1. Pola atau bentuk kalimat yang digunakan:
Kalimat Positif (Positive Sentence)
• The bus had left before he arrved.
Bis telah berangkat sebelum ia tiba.

Kalimat Negatif (Negative Sentence)
• The bus had not left before he arrived.
Bis belum berangkat sebelum ia tiba.

Kalimat Tanya (Interrogative Sentence)
• Had the bus left before he arrved?
Apakah bis telah berangkat sebelum ia tiba?

2. Jawaban untuk kalimat tanya dapat menggunakan “yes” atau
“no”:
• Had the bus left before he arrived?
Apakah bis telah berangkat sebelum ia tiba?

Long answer:
• Yes, the bus had left before he arrived.
Ya, bis telah berangkat sebelum ia tiba.
• No, the bus hadn’t left before he arrived.
Tidak, bis belum berangkat sebelum ia tiba.
