Ada sebuah tas di sana.

2. Expletive selalu tanpa tekanan. Namun, kata keterangan “there”, ketika
muncul di posisi awal, diberi tekanan.
Contoh:
Where’s the pencil?
Di mana pensilnya?

Adverb
There it is – on the table.
Itu dia di atas meja.

3. Dalam situasi informal, bentuk singular “there” terkadang digunakan sebelum
frase kata benda jamak, misalnya:
There’s some pens in my bag.
Ada beberapa pena di tas saya.
Namun, kata benda jamak lebih sering digunakan jika kata benda pharse
adalah jamak, misalnya:
There are some pencils in my bag.
Ada beberapa pensil di tas saya.

4. Agar kita lebih memahami expletive “there” perhatikan beberapa tambahan
contoh di bawah ini:
With an adverbial of place (on the table, etc.):
• There are a few pencils on the table.
Ada beberapa pensil di atas meja.
• There are a lot of teachers here.
Ada banyak guru di sini.
• There’s a little coffee in that glass.
Ada sedikit kopi di gelas itu.
• There isn’t much coffee in that glass.
Tidak banyak kopi di gelas itu.

With an adverbial of time (tomorrow, etc)
• There’s going to be a meeting tomorrow.
Akan ada rapat besok.
• There were several concerts last week.
Ada beberapa konser minggu yang lalu.
• There wasn’t a book here yesterday. But there is one here today.
Tidak ada buku di sini kemarin. Tetapi ada satu di sini hari ini.
• There weren’t any bananas on the table yesterday. But there are some
on the table today.
Tidak ada pisang di atas meja kemarin. Tetapi ada beberapa di atas meja
hari ini.
