b. Past Tense

1) Simple Past Tense
Pola kalimat negatif pada bentuk simple past tense adalah
sebagai berikut:

Kalimat Verbal : (S+Did+Not+Verb I+o/c)
Kalimat Nominal : (S+Was/Were+Not+NonVerb+o/c)

Beberapa contoh di bawah ini:
• I did not wash the clothes last week.
Saya tidak mencuci baju itu minggu yang lalu.
• I did not finish the job two hours ago.
Saya tidak menyelesaikan pekerjaan itu dua jam yang lalu.
• They were not in the house last night.
Mereka tidak berada di rumah tadi malam.
• She was not here last morning.
Dia tidak berada di sini tadi pagi.

2) Past Progressive Tense
Pola kalimat negatif pada bentuk past progressive tense adalah
sebagai berikut:

(S+Were /Was+Not+Verb l+lng+o/c)

Beberapa contoh penggunaannya dalam kalimat:
• They were not resting.
Mereka sedang tidak beristirahat.
• He was not working last night.
Dia sedang tidak bekerja tadi malam.
• They were not living in the city when the war started.
Mereka sedang tidak tinggal di kota itu ketika perang mulai.
• She was not doing housework while the children were watching
television.
Dia sedang tidak melakukan pekerjaan rumah tangga sementara
anak-anak sedang menonton TV.

3) Past Perfect Tense
Pola kalimat negatif pada bentuk past perfect tense adalah
sebagai berikut:

Kalimat Verbal : (S+Had+Not+ Verb III+o/c)
Kalimat Nominal : (S+Had+Not+Been+Non Verb+o/c)

Beberapa contoh di bawah ini:
• We went to sleep when our friends had not left.
Kami pergi tidur ketika teman-teman kami belum pergi.
